What is social distancing?

Social distancing means keeping people, even those who are healthy, away from each other. The goal of this is to slow the spread of the virus that causes COVID-19.

In general, the recommendation is to cancel or postpone large gatherings such as sports events, concerts, festivals, parades, and weddings. But even small gatherings can be risky. If you do need to leave your home (for example, to get groceries), be sure to wash your hands often and try your best to stay at least 6 feet away from other people. Avoid hugs, handshakes, and high fives, and encourage others to do the same.
