Overview
Family medicine specialty focuses on whole-person, family centered, comprehensive, compassionate and coordinated primary health care. It is multi-specialty based and deals with common illnesses in the community. In other words, Family Physicians are multi-competent specialists providing a single-window healthcare to the population they cater to.
Family medicine provides accessible and cost-effective medical care of all medical specialties to families in the community. Family medicine provides curative, preventive, end-of-life care both in hospital and at home in the community. They work in collaboration with the specialists for specific interventions if needed. They also supervise and are responsible for the well-being of health in the community. The family physician screens them during the early stages of a disease and educates the patient on healthy choices before the disease further progresses, thus motivating the individual to adopt a healthy life-style.
The department has also been accredited by National Board of Examination, New Delhi to conduct the Post Graduate program for DNB Family Medicine.
